Palmetto General Hospital
Palmetto General Hospital
Derived from a Seminole word meaning high prairie, the name Hialeah is fitting for this city because it is situated on a prairie between Biscayne Bay and the Everglades. Nestled in northwest Miami-Dade County, this beautiful South Florida community has much to offer. The city is home to Hialeah Park that opened in 1925, the same year the city was incorporated. This 220-acre grand dame of horse racing has played host to Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, J. P. Morgan, and Amelia Earhart, who bid farewell to the U.S. from Hialeah Park prior to her fateful around-the-world flight attempt. The park also serves as an Audubon Bird Sanctuary. The city has 14 public parks that encompass more than 100 acres. The school district is part of the Miami-Dade County School System, which sends 80 percent of its graduates on to higher education. The city also offers access to major highways, railways (including Amtrak), airports, and the Port of Miami. And, of course, the white sand beaches of South Florida are just minutes away.
