Located 50 miles east of Nashville, Carthage lies among the majestic hills of Middle Tennessee. Situated on the north bank of the Cumberland River, it offers a variety of activities and historical sites, including the 1879 courthouse and Carthage Methodist Church. Outdoor recreation includes hunting, fishing, boating, picnicking, hiking and swimming at the Cumberland and Caney Fork Rivers, Cordell Hull Lake and Edgar Evins State Park. At the Appalachian Center for Craft, a satellite campus of Tennessee Tech University, students participate in a variety of professional craft studies. The Center features a gallery and special exhibitions.
