Pell City is the county seat of St. Clair County, Alabama, and as of the 2010 census, the city population was 12,695. The city has a total area of 27.2 square miles, of which 24.6 square miles is land and 2.6 square miles (or 9.57 percent) is water. Situated along Interstate 20 between Birmingham, Alabama, and Atlanta, Georgia, Pell City is the largest city in the county. Just 35 miles east of Birmingham, Pell City is located on the shores of Logan Martin Lake, which was created in 1964 by the construction of Logan Martin Dam that provides hydro-electric power to the central region of the state. The city is surrounded by the unincorporated communities of Wattsville to the north, Cropwell to the south, Seddon to the east, and Chula Vista to the west.
