Job Description

Physician – Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)
VA North Texas Health Care System – Dallas, TX

Your Role:
We are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Physiatrist (PM&R) with experience in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) to join our multidisciplinary team at VA North Texas Health Care System. As an SCI physician, you will deliver comprehensive care to Veterans in both inpatient and outpatient settings while working closely with an interdisciplinary care team.

Core Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Admitting privileges and performing comprehensive history and physical exams
  • Developing and managing individualized treatment plans
  • Diagnosing and treating conditions across multiple systems: cardiovascular, dermatologic, endocrine, GI, gynecologic, hematologic, neurologic, musculoskeletal, psychiatric, pulmonary, renal, and more
  • Performing procedures including: joint injections, trigger point injections, wound care, suturing, catheterization, parenteral therapy, ventilator management, and more
  • Managing special therapies such as aquatic therapy, osteopathic manipulation (if credentialed), and physical modalities
  • Responding to consults and prescribing treatment for referred inpatients
  • Utilizing VA’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and adhering to documentation standards
  • Participating in staff meetings, teaching, committee work, and administrative functions

Work Schedule:
Monday–Friday, with potential shifts of 7:30am–4:00pm, 8:00am–4:30pm, or 8:30am–5:00pm. Some on-call responsibilities required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be considered if no qualified U.S. citizens apply)
  • M.D. or D.O. degree from accredited institution
  • Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
  • Completion of ACGME or AOA-accredited PM&R residency program
  • Board certification or eligibility in PM&R and/or SCI
  • Proficiency in English
  • Ability to pass VA physical, background screening, and drug test

Preferred Experience:

  • SCI Fellowship-trained
  • Experience with SCI patient population
  • Background in acute/subacute rehabilitation care
  • Leading or participating in interdisciplinary teams
  • Performing outpatient procedures
