North Texas VA Health Care System

VA North Texas Health Care System is a progressive health care provider in the heart of Texas that covers 38 counties in Texas and two in southern Oklahoma. Accredited by The Joint Commission, this 1A complexity level facility is the second largest VA health care system in the country, serving more than 129,000 Veterans with 1.4 million outpatient episodes of care in FY 17. With headquarters in Dallas, other facilities are located in Bonham, Fort Worth, Tyler and Plano as well as five community based outpatient clinics.

A team of approximately 5,600 employees, 1,400 community volunteers and annual operating budget of $960 million, strive to provide the right type of care for best possible health outcomes with attention to needs and life goals of Veterans.

VA North Texas provides comprehensive health services through primary, tertiary and long-term care in many areas, including medicine, surgery, mental health and rehabilitation. The 853-bed system includes Spinal Cord Injury Center, Domiciliary and Community Living Center with dedicated hospice and dementia units. A Fisher House on campus at Dallas VA Medical Center provides no-cost temporary lodging in a home-like setting for families of Veterans or active duty military personnel receiving VA care. A Polytrauma Suite provides specialized treatments and therapies for traumatic brain injury and other combat-associated conditions, and a dedicated Mammography Suite provides OB-GYN and imaging services in a private spa-like environment for female Veterans.

The Dallas campus is designated as a Federal Coordinating Center for emergency response and is one of five designated Centers of Innovation by the Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation. It is also home to the Fisher House which provides a ‘home away from home’ for families of Veterans receiving care.

VA North Texas was the first VA in the Nation with an approved TAVR program - transcatheter aortic valve replacement. VA North Texas was the first VA medical facility and second hospital in the country to successfully deploy v-BLOC therapy, a scientifically advanced weight loss system. Other medical services include Dialysis, Telemetry, Interventional Cardiology and Intensive Care. Mental Health care includes Domiciliary and Electroconvulsive Therapy; Cardiothoracic, Bariatrics and Robotics are among the surgical services available as well as Hospice and Palliative Care, and advanced imaging services.
