About La Grande, Oregon

La Grande’s name comes from an early French settler who used the term “la grande” to describe the area’s beauty. And it truly is grand. With the Blue Mountains on one side, and the Wallowa Mountains on the other side, this fertile valley thrills with its beautiful vistas. Settlers passed through here when traveling the Oregon Trail in the mid-1800’s, so the area is ripe with history of the Old West. Eastern Oregon is also paradise for anglers and hunters of deer and elk, as well as other outdoor enthusiasts. Downhill skiing is available at nearby Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort, and you'll find people enjoying every outdoor activity imaginable. La Grande is also a college town and home to Eastern Oregon State University.
