Job Description

General Summary/Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Occupational Health Medical Director, the physician serves in a position of leadership to direct and coordinate all clinical services involving professional and medical judgment. The Physician provides direct patient care, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of occupational injuries or illnesses. Must work collaboratively with company representatives to assist in timely return to work. Responsible for performing physical exam assessments, including DOT exams, Pension Board Physicals, and other specific company requested specialty physicals. Responsible to provide Medical Review Officer service.

Essential Duties & Functions:

Physician responsibility for the provision of service to clients in Occupational Health Clinic

  • Reports directly to the Occupational Health Medical Director for medical responsibilities and reports indirectly to the Health Center Director, and Managers for administrative and operational workings of the site.
  • In collaboration with Medical Director, Director of Operations, and Practice Manager, performs services outlined in goals, objectives, and strategic plans for Health Centers.
  • Provide episodic, preventive, occupational and/or primary health care to patients depending on the needs of the client.
  • Conduct histories, physical exams and prescribes medical treatment.
  • Develops treatment plans in collaboration with patients; educates and advises on medical issues as needed.
  • Participate in the orientation process of Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and Residents. .
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends/developments in health care and Occupational Health
  • Participates in legal reviews, depositions, chart reviews, disability evaluations, MRO duties, etc.
  • Maintain professional communications by at attending necessary meetings, conference calls, responding to email, telephone or written communication in a timely manner.

Physician Tasks

  • MRO-Medical Review Officer Certification
  • Provide direct patient care hours
  • Maintain CDME-Commercial Driver Medical Examiner License
