Position Details

Setting:

• Inpatient consult service at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA

• Occasional need for outpatient clinic coverage at the Harbour View area in Suffolk, VA

• Rare cross-coverage possible at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, VA

• Adult/Geriatric population only

• Average 6–8 patients per day

Schedule:

• Full-time, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM

• Four 10-hour shifts with a rotating day off

• No call

What You’ll Do

• Deliver expert inpatient palliative consultations, including chart review, patient assessment, and symptom management

• Conduct meaningful goals-of-care conversations, advance care planning, and end-of-life discussions

• Provide emotional and spiritual support to patients and families

• Coordinate care with referring teams, nursing, social work, chaplaincy, and other involved providers

• Use robust tools including EPIC, MyChart, and DAX CoPilot/AI documentation support

• Contribute to a warm, patient-centered environment where dignity, comfort, and communication are key

What We’re Looking For

• 3–5 years of hospice or palliative care experience (highly preferred)

• A provider who demonstrates emotional intelligence, compassion, and a patient-first mindset

• Someone who values teamwork, communication, and a mission-driven approach to care
