Chairperson – Otolaryngology (ENT) Charleston Area Medical Center Institute for Academic Medicine | Charleston, WV

Position Summary: Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) and the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine seek an accomplished and forward-thinking Chairperson for our expanding ENT Department (ranks available: Associate Professor, or Professor). This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an Otolaryngology leader with a passion for transforming health care delivery in rural and resource-constrained communities through innovation, technology, and systems-based thinking.

The Chairperson will provide strategic, clinical, and academic leadership to advance patient care, research, and education, while championing new models of care tailored to diverse Appalachian populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction for all clinical, academic, and administrative activities in the department including the creation of an academic learning environment for future training program opportunities
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain high-caliber faculty and clinical staff
  • Collaborate with hospital and system leadership to expand ENT Service Lines
  • Lead and implement innovative care delivery models including:
    • Telemedicine and virtual consult frameworks
    • Data-informed clinical decision tools and informatics innovation
    • Hub and spoke models for subspecialty care delivery
  • Collaborate across service lines to create meaningful experiences in outpatient, inpatient, and community-based care.
  • Champion health equity and access by addressing social determinants of health across training and service missions and bring otolaryngology general and subspecialty care to the Appalachian region community.
  • Promote scholarly activity and foster a spirit of inquiry, reflection, and professional growth.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Must have an MD, DO or foreign equivalent and obtain a state medical license
  • Board Certification in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery
  • Proven record of progressive leadership experience in an academic setting
  • Demonstrated success in clinical excellence, education and scholarly activity
  • Experience building academic learning environments and creating new service lines

Other Considerations:

  • Fluency in emerging technologies, including telehealth platforms and EHR-based learning tools.
  • Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement.

Vandalia Health Charleston Area Medical Center is a nonprofit, 1,138-bed regional referral center comprising seven hospitals across southern West Virginia as well as the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine and the CAMC Foundation. More than 1,500 providers serve on its medical staff.

 

The CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine is West Virginia’s premier medical teaching facility, hosting more than 1,000 learners every day in programs leading to health professions degrees and certifications.

 

The Institute offers continuing education, outreach, research support and patient education. It also sponsors more than 20 ACGME accredited residency and fellowship programs, as well as three pharmacy residencies, a clinical psychology internship and post graduate position, and a School of Nurse Anesthesia (affiliated with the University of Charleston since 2024). Programs designed to meet the needs of the community in which we serve are constantly being developed. 

 

The CAMC Center for Learning and Research, home to the Institute, provides advanced simulation-based clinical training in a realistic environment. The facility includes operating rooms, a critical care room, a labor and delivery suite and multiple inpatient and outpatient training rooms to help learners practice skills and procedures safely.
