Job Description

South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio, Texas, is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our team as Chief of Diagnostic Imaging. Chief, Diagnostic Imaging (Full-Time)

  • Location: South Texas Veterans Health Care System, San Antonio, TX

Opportunity Highlights:

As the Chief of Diagnostic Imaging, you will play a critical role in overseeing the imaging department, ensuring the highest standards of diagnostic imaging and patient care. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, directing, and managing the imaging department.
  • Developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures.
  • Supervising imaging staff including radiologists, technologists, assistants, and administrative personnel.
  • Ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation requirements.
  • Overseeing the quality and accuracy of diagnostic imaging procedures (X-rays, MRI, CT scans, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine).
  • Managing the department's budget and resources.
  • Collaborating with other departments to coordinate imaging services and patient care.
  • Implementing quality control programs for reliable imaging results.
  • Mentoring and supporting clinical staff in their professional development, career progression, and continuing education.

Work Environment: The position is in an outpatient setting, serving a diverse Veteran population, including combat veterans, women, individuals with mental health needs, and those with chronic illnesses.

Team Structure: The Chief will supervise an administrative officer, lead technician, one nurse, and 19 radiologists within a department comprising 141 staff members in total.

South Texas Veterans Health Care System offers comprehensive imaging technologies, including:

  • Computed Tomography (CT)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Mammography
  • Densitometry
  • Nuclear medicine
  • Interventional Radiology
  • Ultrasound
  • Minor procedures
  • Fluoroscopy and radiography

 

Annual CME allowance is provided as part of the benefits package, fostering opportunities for training, education, research, and involvement in projects.

 

Patient Population: The department serves a diverse patient demographic, including young veterans, elderly veterans from previous conflicts, women, and those with various health conditions such as mental health issues, chronic diseases, musculoskeletal issues, neurological disorders, cancer, and more.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Education: Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a school in the U.S. or Canada, or foreign equivalent with ECFMG certification.
  • Licensure: Full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Completion of ACGME- or AOA-approved residency leading to board certification eligibility.
  • Board Certification: Required in Radiology.
  • English Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Physical Requirements: Must meet the physical standards for appointments.
