Qualifications:
UPMC Central PA seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant that will work cooperatively with physicians, other PA’s/NP’s, RN’s and other allied health personnel in the Department of Hematology/Oncology. This position will provide inpatient hematology/oncology consultation in the Harrisburg area within our 3 local hospitals. CRNPs are expected to have an acute care certification or advanced oncology certified nurse practitioner certification (AOCP) within 3 years of hire.
Responsibilities include working collaboratively with oncologists and giving consultation direction to various allied health staff. Tasks may includes a comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a diagnostic impression, developing and implementing a treatment plan, monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, prescription of pharmacological agents and treatments and non-pharmacological therapies, and offering counseling and education to meet patient needs. Background in hematology/oncology is desired but not required.
Other Qualifications:
Hematology and Oncology experience preferred but not required. Orientation period to oncology will be provided. Two to five years of clinical experience in primary care or acute care is desired. Clinical leadership and professional flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs. Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting. Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills. Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record (EPIC) preferred.
License or Certification:
For Nurse Practitioner: Current PA RN license, Advanced Practice Certificate, and Prescribing and Dispensing Certificate in Pennsylvania. Certification as nurse practitioner by an approved certifying organization. Maintains DEA certificate and prescribing and dispensing privileges in PA. Basic Life Support (BLS)
