The new ECU Health Behavioral Health Hospital, a 144-bed behavioral health facility, will open in the fall of 2025.

Academic appointment with the Department of Behavioral Health and Psychiatry at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine
Typical day starts at 8 am and ends at 5 pm (M-F) primarily inpatient
Provider supervises residents and/or may provide consultation services at ECU Health Medical Center and the Emergency Department.
Physician will have oversight to up to 2 residents on the unit with a capacity maximum of 24 beds
On call is phone only nights and weekends
Referral network includes 29 county service area with a population of 1.4 million people

List of required procedures and certifications:
1. Graduate of a medical school approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or the AAMC and the Council of Medical Education of the AMA (MD or DO)
2. Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency training program or Graduate of an approved combined medicine-psychiatry or family medicine-psychiatry residency training program
3. Evidence of Board Certification in Psychiatry, OR eligibility for appropriate board certification as specified in the ECU Physicians Credentialing Plan. If not yet board certified, board certification will be expected in accordance with ECU Physicians Credentialing Plan.
4. Must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of North Carolina
5. Psychosomatic Medicine Fellowship preferred, not required.
