Position Summary
Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking an innovative and mission-driven physician-educator to serve as Pediatric Residency Program Director. This is a unique opportunity to lead a nationally recognized residency program at one of the largest pediatric healthcare systems in the country. What You’ll Do
- Lead a dynamic, ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program with a strong history of excellence.
- Shape and advance a modern, competency-based curriculum that prepares residents for the future of pediatric medicine.
- Collaborate with a dedicated leadership team of 4 Associate Program Directors, 3 Chief Residents, and 15 core faculty.
- Champion resident recruitment, mentorship, and individualized career development.
- Foster a culture of community, wellness, academic rigor, and professional growth.
- Integrate emerging technologies, including simulation and AI, into education and training.
Key Responsibilities
- Dedicate 75% effort to program leadership and 25% to clinical practice.
- Ensure ongoing ACGME and Pediatric RRC compliance, including oversight of accreditation processes, annual reviews, and self-studies.
- Lead the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC).
- Develop and implement strategies for attracting top residency candidates.
- Support resident well-being, individualized learning, and professional development.
- Promote faculty engagement, development, and scholarship in teaching, QI, research, and leadership.
- Maintain a safe, supportive learning environment where feedback and innovation are encouraged.
What We’re Looking For
Required
- MD or DO with board certification in Pediatrics
- Faculty appointment (or eligibility)
- Demonstrated commitment to mentorship, wellness, and building professional community
Preferred
- Advanced training in education, public health, or leadership (MEd, MPH, MBA, or similar)
- Experience in QI, patient safety, or population health
- Familiarity with simulation, AI, and other emerging educational tools
