Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Spine Surgery

Position Summary:

Luminis Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our prestigious Orthopedic Spine Surgery Team in the Lanham/Bowie region. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside board-certified spine surgeons and an advanced orthopedic team delivering specialized care in spine pathology, surgery, and rehabilitation.

This hybrid position combines clinic-based care with first-assist responsibilities in the OR, offering exposure to a broad range of spine conditions including degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, and more. You'll contribute to a multidisciplinary approach that supports optimal patient outcomes.


What You’ll Do:

  • Evaluate and manage patients with spinal disorders in a busy orthopedic spine clinic.
  • Perform comprehensive pre- and post-operative assessments and care coordination.
  • Serve as a first assist in the operating room during elective and urgent spine procedures.
  • Interpret diagnostic studies (e.g., MRIs, CTs, X-rays) to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Perform and assist with in-office procedures, including spinal injections and minor interventions.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, surgical and non-surgical treatment options, post-operative care, and recovery plans.
  • Collaborate closely with attending spine surgeons and the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Ensure timely referrals and follow-up care across the continuum.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current Maryland license and national certification (NCCPA for PAs; board certification for NPs).
  • Eligible or currently licensed as a PA or NP in the state of Maryland.
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience required. Spine, orthopedic, or surgical first assist experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity orthopedic environment.
  • Excellent communication, diagnostic reasoning, and collaborative care skills.
