Division Chief for Community Practice – Department of Anesthesiology
*This is a per diem position (4 hours per week)
Key Responsibilities:
The Division Chief for Community Practice will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Department of Anesthesiology’s community-based practices within the UNC Faculty Practice, the NC Health System, and the UNC Health System. This role is responsible for ensuring effective clinical operations, financial sustainability, and alignment with the overall strategic goals of UNC Health and the Department of Anesthesiology.
The Division Chief will report to the Vice Chair for Clinical Operations and the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology. The Division Chief will collaborate closely with medical directors at each community practice site, the Community Practice Director of Operations, the Associate Chair for Administration, and key stakeholders in Human Resources and Legal at both the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Health.
- Leadership & Provider Management: Provide oversight and support for anesthesiologists working within the community hospitals, in coordination with individual site medical directors. Foster consistent communication and collaboration among clinical providers, operational managers, hospital leadership, and UNC Faculty Practice stakeholders to achieve optimal clinical and operational outcomes.
- Contracting & Compensation: Partner with Legal and Human Resources to develop and implement physician employment agreements, compensation models, and service contracts for existing and expanding community practices.
- Data Oversight & Performance Monitoring: Support the oversight of clinical and operational data reporting. Ensure accuracy of shared analytics and leverage performance metrics to drive continuous improvement and strategic decision-making.
- Recruitment & Retention: Collaborate with hospital leadership and Human Resources to recruit, onboard, and retain anesthesiology providers, including full-time staff, per diem clinicians, and locum tenens, to meet evolving practice needs.
- Strategic Expansion & Practice Development: Engage in strategic planning with internal and external stakeholders to support the launch and integration of new physician practices, providers, and initiatives across the community network.
