Primary Care Physician Opportunity at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center

Position Overview
The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, located in Clarksburg, WV, alongside its
Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Gassaway, Parkersburg, Parsons, and
Westover, is actively seeking qualified Primary Care Physicians (PCPs). The selected
physicians will be responsible for providing comprehensive care to veterans,
demonstrating expertise in Family Medicine and a commitment to high-quality, patient-
centered healthcare.
QPCS is seeking providers to support each location. Travel will be provided and/or
reimbursed.
Qualifications
Licensure: Applicants must possess an active, current, and unrestricted medical
license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United
States, or the District of Columbia. Physicians with licenses that have been
restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action, or denied
upon application are not eligible for consideration.
Board Certification: Candidates must be Board Certified in Family Medicine or
Internal Medicine.
Credentialing and Privileging: All physicians must complete the credentialing and
privileging process in accordance with VHA Directive 1100.20 and 1100.21.
Services cannot be rendered before approval from the Facility Medical Executive
Board and the Medical Center Director. Should a physician's credentials or
privileges be suspended or revoked, the contractor is required to provide a
qualified substitute at no additional cost.
Technical Proficiency: Physicians are expected to demonstrate the skills
necessary to meet government healthcare standards, including fluency in English
(speaking, understanding, reading, and writing) and compliance with the Medical
Staff By-Laws, rules, and regulations of the facility. Documentation of ongoing
competency, skills, certification, licensure, and educational history must be
furnished upon request.
Continuing Medical Education (CME): Physicians must fulfill CME/CEU
requirements to maintain certification. Current CME records are to be submitted
to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) and tracked by the credentials
office. Failure to provide these records may result in loss of privileges.
Mandatory Training: Completion of all VA educational and mandatory courses is
required, including ACLS, BLS, EHR, and other trainings specific to VA
standards. Physicians must hold Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced
Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications. Updates to training
requirements will be communicated by the VA as needed.
Experience and Skills
Experience working in a VA or similar healthcare environment is highly preferred.
Proven ability to deliver patient-centered care to a diverse veteran population is
essential.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with
interdisciplinary teams are required.
Scope of Work
Physicians are expected to spend 95% of their time providing direct patient care
and 5% completing administrative duties, such as participating in quality
improvement initiatives.
All care provided must meet or exceed the standards established by the
American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM).
Hours of Operation and Scheduling
Primary Care clinics operate Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Contractor physicians must be available for all outpatient clinic hours or as
required by the Chief of Staff or their designee.
Physicians must see patients on-site promptly and adhere to VA wait time and
consult completion requirements. Any obstacles to meeting these standards must
be reported to the COR monthly.
