Neonatology Physician (MD/DO) - UNC Health Nash

Job Description

The Department of Pediatrics at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC)/ North Carolina Children’s Hospital is seeking an individual for a 0.5 FTE, non-tenure track faculty position in the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

The faculty member will provide inpatient clinical services for approximately one week each month, primarily in the Special Care Nursery (SCN) at UNC Health Nash. This level II neonatal intensive care unit serves Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and surrounding counties, admitting close to 200 patients per year. UNC Health Nash is affiliated with the University of North Carolina, a quaternary referral center to which UNC Health Nash is linked by teleconferencing, for the purpose of consultations and continuing medical education.

The SCN at UNC Health Nash is housed in the Women’s Center, a new facility opened in May 2016. The Women’s Center is a 47,048 square foot building designed in consultation with mother-baby experts, community members, and new parents. The Women’s Center gives new families a “hotel-like” experience. The facility features 6 labor and delivery suites with private bathrooms, a dedicated cesarean section suite with a spacious recovery room, 16 soothing mother-baby post-partum rooms with private bathrooms and ample space for family and friends and a large, innovative Special Care Nursery. The Special Care Nursery is comprised of twelve individual rooms for infant patients that include sleeping accommodations, private bathrooms, and hot meals for family members who are encouraged to stay with their babies.

The unit is designed to care for the intermediate neonate, stable growing premature infant and readmitted infants < 30 days old. The SCN provides such care as: oxygen therapy, continuous monitoring, IV therapy, phototherapy, antibiotics, and OG/NG feedings. Monitoring capabilities include central cardiac/respiratory monitoring, apnea/bradycardia monitoring, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, glucose and thermoregulation.

The successful candidate will be board-certified in Pediatrics and BC/BE in Pediatric Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine with training and experience in clinical neonatology. This part-time faculty position will be committed to patient care. A demonstrated commitment to quality improvement is expected for all faculty within the Division. Rank and salary will be commensurate with training, experience, and academic accomplishments. The faculty member will be eligible for benefits based on the part-time status of 50% FTE.
