The Salisbury VA Health Care System is seeking a dedicated, full-time Psychiatrist to join our esteemed team at the Kernersville Health Care Center. Functions and Duties of Psychiatrists:

  • Perform and teach psychiatric services to residents and provide educational experiences for other healthcare trainees.
  • Assess individuals for psychiatric care using accepted protocols, including history gathering, mental status exams, and medical evaluations.
  • Provide diagnostic descriptions to guide treatment and deliver psychiatric care within the scope of their privileges.
  • Be responsible for all psychiatric care aspects, including availability for emergency interventions during on-call hours.

Additional Functions:

  • Assist and guide residents or clinical providers in evaluating and treating psychiatric patients.
  • Monitor patient progress, documenting changes in their physical and mental status.
  • Conduct both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric evaluations and treatments.
  • Participate in hospital committees, in-service programs, education, and peer review processes for quality improvement.
  • Engage in research activities and hold faculty appointments for teaching purposes.

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is impossible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA Policy.

Education: A Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine is required.

Licensure: Candidates must possess a current, complete, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency: Completion of a residency program in an accredited core specialty

Board Certification: Candidates must be board-certified or board eligible.
