This surgical position will be responsible for the care and management of cardiothoracic surgical patients in the Operating Room, Open Heart Unit and the Transitional Open Heart Unit such as:
· Main responsibility is surgical first/second assist on all cardiac surgery cases. Secondary responsibilities are below.
· Work in conjunction with the attending cardiothoracic surgeon, and non-surgical providers, for medical care of cardiothoracic surgical patients.
· Perform comprehensive histories and physicals with thorough documentation in the medical record.
· Order, interpret, and analyze diagnostic data; perform appropriate diagnostic procedures when indicated.
· Placement of invasive monitoring lines including central venous catheters, dialysis lines, and arterial access.
· Participate in ongoing education, quality, and research projects.
· Contribute to service-related databases as indicated.
· Maintain open communication with the interdisciplinary team, patients, and families to ensure continuity across the care continuum.
· Provide clear, timely, and concise documentation of patient care, including histories, daily progress notes, procedures, acute events, transfers, and discharge summaries. Professional Practice
· Participate in shared call for cardiac surgery APCs.
· Support the mission and goals of Lehigh Valley Health Network.

Qualifications
· Must be Board Eligible or Board Certified
· A Valid Pennsylvania Medical License or ability to obtain one is required
· Minimum 3-5 years of cardiac surgery experience preferred but not required
