Community Overview
The Mendocino Coast is a spectacular collection of unique and romantic beaches, lighthouses on craggy bluffs, pristine rivers and lakes, redwood forests that thrive along the way to the shining sea. Nestled on the northern coast of California, Fort Bragg is a small town of approximately 7,500 and is a tourist destination due to the picturesque view of the Pacific Ocean. The Victorian coastal village Mendocino (about ten miles south of Fort Bragg) is the only town on the California Coast that is designated as a Historical Landmark. Established in the 1850's the architecture is reminiscent of Maine with its grand Victorians and quaint Saltbox cottages. Flowers grow lush and many of the Mendocino Inns offer beautiful gardens to enjoy. Mendocino is a photographer’s paradise, everywhere you look there is another picture postcard waiting to be snapped. From crashing waves and old-fashioned water towers to flower covered picket fences and sandy beaches - the magic that makes Mendocino unique. Both towns offer unique shopping, dining, and site seeing opportunities. The Skunk Train takes riders through the majestic redwoods, from Fort Bragg to the beautiful Glen Blair Bar, or another option is to take the rail bike tour through the redwoods up the Noyo River. Fort Bragg is a welcoming community, which is clearly present in its numerous town celebrations, festivals, and events, including the World’s Largest Salmon BBQ, which takes place every year around the Fourth of July holiday. All sorts of recreational opportunities can be found from boating, fishing, beaches, hiking trails and much more.
