The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is a world-renowned tertiary and quaternary Advanced Heart Failure Center. The advanced heart failure team is a multidisciplinary service that supports patients with advanced cardiac disease and is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its team. Patients are cared for in the cardiac IMC/step-down area.
Job specifics:
• The population includes patients post cardiac transplant, post ventricular assist device placement, pulmonary hypertension, cardiogenic shock, or decompensated heart failure.
• Familiarity with invasive cardiac monitoring and arrhythmia management is required.
• Hours are 7 am to 5:30 pm (rotation may be required)
• Ability to present a cohesive plan of care to the attending physicians
• Opportunities to be involved in research/quality improvement efforts.
• Good verbal and written communication required.
• Coordination of efforts towards advanced care planning required.
• Emphasis on communication with family members regarding changes in the patient’s condition
• Family and patient education will be required.
• Communication with on-coming and off-service providers to ensure continuity of care and avoid complications associated with care transitions.

A Master of Science degree, with completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician Assistant’s Program. Preferably, the candidate will have one year of experience in an ICU. Cardiology experience is a plus.
