The Pulmonologist is responsible for the outpatient management of patients with Pulmonary and Sleep Consultations, inpatient pulmonary consultation, procedures and staffing ICU. This is a full-time position (Monday-Friday) managing outpatient Pulmonary/ Sleep Consultations and follow-ups. Inpatient rotations include Pulmonary Hospital Service, ICU and weekends on call. PFT's and sleep studies interpretation are also the expected duties.
Duties include:
- Participates in the development of a comprehensive, individual plan of care based on patient's assessment and needs.
- Performing pulmonary procedures such as thoracentesis, bronchoscopy, Endo Bronchial Ultrasound, indwelling tunneled pleural catheter placement.
- Performing ICU procedures such as endotracheal intubation, placement of arterial and central venous catheter and chest tube insertion.
- Review of outpatient pulmonary and sleep consults.
- Education of trainees including medical students, Internal Medicine residents, and pulmonary and critical care fellows.
- Responding to Rapid response and Code Blue response calls while in the ICU rotation.
- On-call availability during after-hours and weekends while on ICU rotation.
- Work in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare providers for pulmonary resources.
- Service as interdisciplinary consultant and patient advocate.
- Skilled healthcare provider who utilizes judgement in pulmonary diagnosis, ordering tests and prescribing treatment.
- Communicates and collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to develop and coordinate the treatment plan for Veterans in the outpatient setting.
Preferred Experience:
- Fellowship training and Board Certified/Eligible in Pulmonary Medicine
- Fellowship training and Board Certified/Eligible in Critical Care Medicine
- Proficiency in pulmonary and Critical Care procedures
- Experience or strong interest in outpatient pulmonary/sleep clinic
- Sleep Medicine Board Certification/Eligibility and experience
Work Schedule: Monday -Friday (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daytime) and rotating on call.

- Pay: Salary Range: $300,000- $400,000. Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

- Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
- Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
- Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) - Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
- Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
