Job Description

Join us in serving those who have served! The Salisbury VA Health Care Center Medicine Services division is seeking a dedicated Nephrology Program Manager to make a difference in the lives of our nation’s heroes.

Duties

Clinical:

  • Provides high-quality, patient-centered care to both inpatients and outpatients across adult age groups (18-65 and 65+), practicing at two sites: the VA Health Care Center in South Charlotte and the main Salisbury campus.
  • Maintains clinical privileges within his/her area of expertise and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care and effective discharge planning.
  • Preferred experience or interest in managing renal transplant patients (post-transplant follow-up) and in-home dialysis modalities, particularly peritoneal dialysis, with plans to develop a home dialysis program.
  • Demonstrates sound clinical and administrative decision-making, serves as a staff attending for subspecialty consults, participates in peer review and multidisciplinary activities, and leads initiatives to improve patient care based on current research and best practices.
  • Completes all medical documentation accurately and timely in CPRS, actively involves patients and families in care planning, and applies advanced clinical judgment to assess, diagnose, and develop individualized care plans for complex renal patients.

Administrative:

  • Actively participates in medical center committees, teams, and facility programs such as CQI initiatives to enhance patient care and organizational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to high-quality customer service, adhering to all information security and privacy policies, and engaging in ongoing professional development through workshops, seminars, and mandatory education.
  • Completes annual goal setting and evaluation, identifies learning needs, and participates in various administrative activities to support the mission and needs of the institution.

 

Preferred Experience

  • This position involves approximately 50-60% of the time at the HCC in South Charlotte.
  • One day per week will be dedicated to clinic at the Salisbury VA Medical Center, with a rotating schedule of one week out of every four or five for on-call duties in Salisbury.
  • Candidates with renal transplant management experience or a strong interest in renal transplantation are highly preferred, as they will assist with that patient population.
  • Additionally, we are in the process of developing a home dialysis program, specifically peritoneal dialysis, so experience or familiarity with home dialysis modalities would be a valuable asset.

Requirements

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Hold a full, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. State
  • Completion of an accredited residency in a core specialty.
  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be considered when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy.

About our Benefits

  • Salary: $290,000-$330,000
  • Salary: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and regular salary increases.
  • Paid Time Off: 50-55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays, and up to 5 days for CME).

  • Licensure: One full, unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory.

  • Contract: No physician employment contract or significant restrictions on moonlighting.
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., with a compressed work schedule.
  • Call Coverage: Approximately one week out of every five weeks, with daytime coverage in Salisbury and overnight coverage from home.
  • Academic Affiliation: Wake Forest participation is available if interested, but it is not mandatory.
