Martinsburg VA Medical Center is seeking Board Eligible or Board Certified Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physicians for our Cumberland, Maryland Community Based Outpatient Center (CBOC). If you enjoy working in a rural, historic community with beautiful scenery, this is a great opportunity. Cumberland is seated just north of Willis Creek and the north bend of the Potomac River; approximately 30 miles south of Bedford, PA, and approximately 1 hour 30 mins from our main VA hospital in Martinsburg. Neighboring  Frostburg State University and Potomac State College are within 30 minutes. 

Our Cumberland VA Clinic outpatient clinic offers primary care and specialty health services, including mental health services, nutrition counseling, immunizations, laboratory services, and more. Our primary care physician will report directly to the Deputy Chief of Primary Care.     

Basic Requirements:

  • Primary tour of duty will Monday – Friday 8:00am -4:30pm; Fulltime Providers are required to work 40 hours weekly.                                                                                             
  • Only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy, Non-citizens may be appointed.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted OR
  • an equivalent degree from a school of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
  • For foreign medical graduates not covered in the previous 2 bullets above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

This position is directly Major Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide comprehensive Primary Care to a panel of patients within a continuity of care clinic, utilizing face-to-face encounters and Telehealth visits.
  • Lead a PACT (Patient Aligned Care Team) consisting of one physician, one RN, one LPN, and one administrative staff member
  • Diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions, utilizing evidence based medicine
  • Provide education to patients about their disease states
  • Incorporate shared decision-making and Whole Health principles, whenever possible
  • Deliver preventive health care
  • Document care in the medical record in a timely manner.
  • Work with an interdisciplinary team in clinic, which includes a clinical practice pharmacist, dietitian, licensed clinical social worker, and psychologist
  • Coordinate care with specialists and community providers, when necessary
  • Notify veterans of test results in patient-friendly language
  • Provide reciprocal cross coverage for colleagues during annual and sick leaves
  • Attend Primary Care and Medical Staff meetings
  • Participate in the educational Peer Review process
