Job Description

The Mental Health Service Line at the Kansas City VA Medical Center is seeking dedicated and skilled Psychiatrists to join our innovative and collaborative healthcare team.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm (with required on-call rotation, which includes nights, weekends and holidays)

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Duties:
Psychiatrists must perform clinical, teaching and administrative duties which may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Application of accepted protocols for assessment of the individual presenting with altered mental status. Assessment may include gathering of verbal and documented history, mental status exam, and any necessary medical, laboratory and imaging evaluations.
  • Diagnostic description or formulation to guide appropriate acute and secondary treatment interventions.
  • Provision of psychiatric care according to privileges.
  • Psychiatrists should be able to perform and teach all of the services required in the practice of psychiatry to psychiatry residents. Educational experiences are also provided to health care personnel seeking training in mental health services (e.g. medical students, psychology interns, social work interns, physician assistants, nursing students and non-psychiatry medical residents).
  • Staff Psychiatrists must assist with meeting all necessary performance measures, completing all necessary training in a timely manner and keeping up with medical and administrative documentation as required.
  • Staff Psychiatrists participate in departmental staff meetings, various hospital committees, departmental and hospital in-service programs, and education programs of the department and the hospital. They are also involved in continuous quality improvement through the peer review process.
  • Staff Psychiatrists are responsible for all aspects of psychiatric care and are responsible for providing and assisting residents and/or nurse practitioners in the process of evaluation and treatment of the psychiatric patient.
  • Staff Psychiatrists are responsible for providing appropriate and timely documentation and also cosign resident notes, indicating supervision and concurrence with each note.
