The Radiologist diagnoses and treats diseases using the hospital’s medical imaging techniques such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs. They may have some evening or weekend hours depending on the facility's needs. The Radiologist acts as a liaison between the department, the medical staff, and the Hospital committees in order to address complaints, respond to questions regarding the department and clinical services, and to keep the medical staff informed regarding the capabilities of the department. This role requires the ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment while maintaining a focus on patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Image Interpretation: Analyze and interpret medical images to diagnose and monitor diseases and injuries.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals to discuss findings and recommend treatment plans.
- Procedures: Perform interventional procedures using imaging guidance, such as biopsies and drain placements.
- Patient Safety: Ensure patient safety and comfort during imaging procedures, adhering to radiation safety protocols.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance programs and stay updated on advancements in imaging technology.
Qualifications
- Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with completion of a residency in radiology.
- Certification: Board certification in radiology is often required.
- Experience: 2 years experience preferred. Experience in mammo preferred.
