Key Responsibilities
- Patient Consultation: Consult with patients to understand their symptoms and medical history related to gastrointestinal issues.
- Diagnostic Testing: Perform and interpret diagnostic tests such as endoscopies, colonoscopies, and imaging studies to diagnose conditions like peptic ulcers, Crohn's disease, and liver disorders.
- Treatment Plans: Develop and implement treatment plans, which may include prescribing medications, recommending lifestyle changes, or performing therapeutic procedures.
- Collaboration: Work with other healthcare professionals, including dietitians and primary care physicians, to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Preventive Care: Provide preventive care, including screenings for colorectal cancer and advice on digestive health.
Qualifications
- Education: Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Residency: Completion of a three-year residency in internal medicine.
- Fellowship: Completion of a two to three-year fellowship in gastroenterology.
- Licensing: Board certification in gastroenterology through the American Board of Internal Medicine is preferred.
