Job Description

Join a team that’s Changing What’s Possible – The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Department of Surgery is actively seeking a dynamic and dedicated board-certified or board-eligible plastic surgeon to join our growing Division of Plastic Surgery. The chosen candidate will play a key role in augmenting and developing our breast reconstruction program, participate in the education of residents and fellows, and contribute to the future of our division.

 

The MUSC Department of Surgery in Charleston is a leading academic surgical center committed to delivering compassionate, high‑quality patient care, training future surgical leaders, and advancing innovation through cutting‑edge clinical, translational, and basic research. Anchored by MUSC Health University Medical Center—an 865‑bed, Level I adult and pediatric trauma facility with the state’s only National Cancer Institute–designated Hollings Cancer Center—the department offers comprehensive residency and fellowship programs spanning general surgery, cardiothoracic, vascular, plastic and hand, trauma, transplant, pediatric, oncologic, endocrine, colorectal, and minimally invasive surgery.

 

The Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Hand Surgery at MUSC boasts fully accredited programs for both integrated residency and independent fellowship training, as well as a postgraduate microsurgery fellowship. The Division provides comprehensive care in reconstructive, aesthetic, craniofacial, hand, and microsurgical procedures, serving patients across five hospitals in Charleston. We are seeking to expand our faculty portfolio as current clinical demand necessitates the addition of more surgeons and residents to meet the growing population in Charleston.

 

We are seeking candidates with:

  1. Board certification or board eligibility in Plastic Surgery
  2. Fellowship training in microsurgery preferred, but not required
  3. Demonstrated interest in research, graduate, and undergraduate education
  4. Commitment to excellence in patient care and professional development

 

About our opportunity:

  1. Appointment as an Assistant, Associate or Professor of Surgery
  2. Potential to serve as the Section Chief of Breast Reconstruction, based on experience and qualifications.
  3. Start date can be as soon as possible or upon graduation in 2026
  4. Provide exceptional clinical care in Plastic and Breast Reconstruction Surgery at our Ashley River Tower and Hollings Cancer Center
  5. Standard Schedule: Two days of outpatient clinic, two days of OR time, and one day of admin/research/flex time. Work schedule is flexible to cater to the candidate’s needs and interests.
  6. Department and division support to grow and streamline our Breast Reconstruction service line.
  7. Collaborate closely with the Division of Surgical Oncology to provide leadership and drive innovation in patient care and integration between surgical oncology and breast reconstruction.
  8. Research is not required; however, we welcome applicants with research interests to apply
  9. Actively participate in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows
  10. Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, and presentations
  11. Contribute to the academic and clinical growth of the department and institution
