Robert J Dole VA Medical Center is hiring a full-time, General orthopedic surgeon with emphasis on total joints: hips, knees, shoulders and arthroscopy. The Orthopedic Surgeon will serve the Veteran patients of the facility. The incumbent may be asked to provide care in various settings to include: outpatient clinics, inpatient units such as Intensive Care and Med/Surg, and in the Emergency Department. The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for all aspects of medical care and provide or assist residents and/or the mid-level practitioner in the process of evaluation and treatment of the Orthopedic Surgery service patients
- Evaluate the patient to assess changes in the physical and mental status
- Responsible to coordinate with providers within their own and outside of their own Service Line, and with other VHA facilities or community providers as determined by the plan of care for the veteran
- Perform consultations within their own and other service lines as indicated
- Responsible for the provision of clinical care, graduate and undergraduate medical education, and scientific research as appropriate
- Although on-call hours are seldom, staff within Orthopedic Surgery service shall be available for emergency intervention
- Participate in a shared rotation of night and weekend on-call coverage as required
- Perform surgery and provide pre-op and post-op care as indicated for major and minor procedures, as well as orthopedic consultation for inpatients and outpatients
- Timely document (notes and encounter forms) in accordance with facility policy
- Teach colleagues, residents, medical and nursing students and other ancillary staff
