IU Health is seeking a patient-focused GastrointestinalOncologist to join the Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, IN. The candidate should demonstrate critical thinking skills, be proactive and also be a team player.
Position Detail
- Full-time Days, Mon-Fri 8a-4:30p
- No Call Schedule
- 100% Outpatient
- Experience in an academic or teaching hospital setting
- Familiarity with chemotherapy regimens and oncology protocols
- Interest in participating in clinical trials or academic research
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of oncology patients in the outpatient setting, including history, physical exams, and review of diagnostic results.
- Monitor for chemotherapy-related toxicities and manage side effects in collaboration with the oncology team.
- Evaluate patients for readiness to initiate or continue chemotherapy and other systemic treatments
- Provide symptom management and supportive care throughout the cancer treatment continuum.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment plans, side effects, and symptom management.
- Participate in tumor boards, clinical rounds, and academic conferences as appropriate.
- Document all patient interactions and care plans accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical research efforts as applicable.
- Guaranteed 4-hour administrative time
Minimum job requirements
- NP/PA graduate with Oncology experience
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in Oncology preferred: GI Oncology experience is a plus
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based care in an academic environment
