Key Responsibilities of the Chief of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service:
Service Leadership and Management:
- Plan, develop, coordinate, direct, and evaluate the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service for both outpatients and inpatients at VA NorCal.
- Perform wide-ranging and high-level management functions for the medical center or at the VISN level by participating in planning and oversight boards, councils, and committees.
Program Development and Maintenance:
- Develop and maintain ongoing programs in the areas of professional peer reviews, organizational improvement, continuing education, scope of practice, clinical privileging, and other quality improvement activities.
Direct Patient Care:
- Provide direct health care to Veterans within the incumbent's area of expertise.
Policy Implementation and Compliance:
- Hold overall responsibility and accountability for the implementation and maintenance of new and established policies.
- Provide overall direction in the continuous operation of the service line.
- Monitor and ensure medical staff compliance with agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, The Joint Commission standards, and other applicable regulations.
