  1. Job Description

Current staffing: 1 Service Chief, 1 Assistant Service Chief, 22 MDs, 1 NP, 1 PA, 1 Administrative Officer (AO) and 1 Program Support Assistant (PSA). 

  1. Low-Acuity Clinic (LAC).
  2. Two mid-levels provide acute care to approx. 25 veterans per day during the hours of 8:00am – 6:00pm.
  3. The Ambulance Service consists of 4 Paramedics and 4 EMTs.
  4. The ambulance is staffed by a paramedic & EMT until 12:00am Monday thru Friday. On weekends the Ambulance is staffed until 8:00pm.

Practice Environment Description includes: 

  1. This position will report to the Section Chief of Emergency Room Medicine Department.

  1. This service provides care during the night shift to approx. 50–100 veterans per month. This is working 72 clinical hours during a 2-week period. 8-hours' administration time is given to each full-time provider to complete any documentation requirements including coding inquires, training modules (TMS), ALS/BLS, etc.

    Opportunity Highlights of this position include:

      1. Employees can take part in 40 hours of paid VA-funded (or non-VA funded) CME hours per fiscal year.
      2. Employees are encouraged to take part in optional education opportunities provided on-site by the VA Learning Resources department.

      Work Schedule/ Tour of Duty & Call Coverage include:

      Compressed Tour of Duty (TOD) 10/11-hour days (9P-7/8A). Some weekends and holidays (major and minor). No Telework available. Not Remote.

        Candidate Qualifications (Basic / Preferred) include:

        1. Board Certified or Board Eligible.
        2. Preferred 2–3 years of Emergency Medicine post residency in an outpatient setting.
        3. 3 years is ideal but less can be considered with experience in rural locations.
        4. Non-OR Airway Management level 3 compliance required.
        5. Point of Care Ultrasound competency preferred.

        5. Malpractice Insurance VA physicians are covered under the Federal Tort Claims Act - 28 U.S.C. § 1346 and 28 U.S.C § 2671. Medical personnel have statutory immunity from “individual” malpractice liability while acting within the scope of employment; a VA physician cannot be sued in civil court for a malpractice (tort) claim.
