Hematology/Oncology Sickle Cell Physician - Charlotte, NC

Job Description

We invite BE/BC Hematologist Physician with a focus on Sickle Cell Disease to discover all that we can do when we bring healing hearts, inquisitive minds and visionaries together in our Hematology team at CMC Main in Charlotte, NC.

The physician will report to the Sickle Cell Enterprise Leader and the Division Chief of Hematology. This role is 70% clinical, with three full clinic days per week, seeing approximately 10–12 patients per day. Responsibilities include providing comprehensive, coordinated care for patients with hemoglobinopathies and managing other anemias in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including clinic nurses, advanced practice providers (APPs), psychologists, and care coordinators.
The physician will also coordinate care with the pediatric sickle cell team and support the transition of care for individuals with sickle cell disease and other hemoglobinopathies. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Delivering high-quality clinical care within a multidisciplinary program
• Collaborating with the care team and emergency department to develop patient care plans
• Managing chronic pain in patients with sickle cell disease
• Assisting in the development of a coordinated transition program in partnership with the pediatric sickle cell team
Administrative base compensation is determined using a specialty-specific benchmark for physician administrative time, plus a potential bonus incentive based on goal achievement. The base salary is established prospectively based on the estimated number of administrative hours and is paid monthly. The bonus is paid annually in the first quarter of the following fiscal year.
The position is eligible for an annual bonus of up to 10% of the administrative base salary, contingent upon the achievement of predefined and mutually agreed-upon goals.
An annual performance evaluation is required for this position. This includes setting annual goals at the beginning of the year, reviewing and documenting progress at regular intervals, and completing a year-end self-assessment. Written feedback will be provided by the Chair of Hematologic Oncology and Blood Disorders.
Administrative duties must be documented in advance each year through the standard job description. Expectations are defined in terms of the hourly commitment required to fulfill these duties.
This position reports to the Director of the Sickle Cell Enterprise and the Chair of the Division of Hematology.
Adjustments to Medical Administrative Compensation:
At the beginning of each fiscal year, Atrium Health will evaluate the physician’s hourly administrative rate and potential bonus incentive. Adjustments may be made to ensure alignment with fair market value and Atrium Health policies.
