Cleveland Clinic, one of the world’s most distinguished academic medical centers, announces a search for the Chair, Department of Infectious Disease. The Department of Infectious Disease is one of five Departments within the Integrated Hospital Care Institute (IHI) and has Divisions in Ohio and Florida. The Integrated Hospital Care Institute (IHI) at Cleveland Clinic is a pioneering model that unifies hospital-based services under one umbrella. It integrates five departments—Emergency Services, Hospital Medicine, Pulmonary-Critical Care, Infectious Disease, and Anesthesiology. IHI supports all 23 Cleveland Clinic hospitals across geographies, with nearly 4,000 caregivers delivering care focused on Quality, Throughput, and Cost Efficiency (QTC).
IHI hosts over 150 residents and 100 fellows across 14 specialties and supports 650+ IRB-approved research projects with federal, industry, and foundation funding. The institute emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and system-wide alignment.
The Cleveland Clinic Department of Infectious Disease is a robust clinical group comprised of 47 clinicians—including 6 advanced practice providers—in both Northeast Ohio and Florida. It provides full spectrum infectious disease care for 5 hospitals including a 1,200-bed referral center with our unique model of 8 inpatient subspecialty ID services and our outpatient department and telehealth ID services. Members of the department pursue specialty interests including solid organ transplant / BMT, bone and joint infections, neurological infections, care of the patient with HIV, granulomatous infections, endocarditis and infected cardiac devices. The department also has an academic mission with our fellowship program and our support of resident graduate medical education not only for internal medicine but other disciplines.
The ideal candidate will have national recognition for their experience and achievements in clinical care, teaching, and research. Applicants should have a record of excellence in mentoring and career development of faculty, residents, and medical students.
Reporting to the Institute Chief, the Department Chair will lead the team in establishing and ensuring Safety, Quality & Patient Experience standards for the specialty across the enterprise. The Chair will mainly focus on long-term strategic planning for Institute service lines and will collaborate with Institute, market, and shared services leaders to define and achieve the vision and strategic goals of the specialty and the Cleveland Clinic. The Chair will also set the vision for research, education, and innovation for Infectious Disease in all markets, motivate and encourage providers to accomplish results through relationship building and diplomacy, support a safe and engaging work environment for caregivers within the department, and oversee physician conduct in all markets with Institute Chief and Market Chief of staff.
