Location: Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) 3551 Roger Brooke Dr, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX 78234, United States.

 

Period of Performance: 1-year base period with potential four (4) option year periods to follow.

 

Schedule: Hospitalist duty hours are primarily daytime and early evening hours, typically

from 0600-1800.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of an Internal Medicine program (M.D. or D.O.) accredited by the ACGME.
  • Shall be Board Certified in Internal Medicine (ABIM).
  • Shall have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine from one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the US Virgin Islands.
  1. Shall have current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by way of an American Heart Association-approved training program.
  2. Minimum of two years of recent experience in inpatient consulting medicine or inpatient ward attending, or at least 6 months of general internal medicine outpatient experience in the past 12 months, or a combination of inpatient and outpatient experience for at least 4 months in the last 12 months.
  3. Active DEA registration
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen

  Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Serves primarily as a Hospitalist and/or Nocturnist for inpatient general medicine wards during daytime/evening hours. Also serves as attending physician for consultation services and provides care in the internal medicine clinic as directed by the Chief, Department of Medicine. 
  2. Cares for inpatients who have both acute and/or chronic illnesses, provides consultation to and acts as an interface with other physicians throughout BAMC. The majority of work will involve inpatient Internal Medicine admissions, serving as staff of record while assisting, teaching, supervising, and evaluating house staff and medical students.
  3. Daily work involves management of complicated medical problems such as infection, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease, thyroid disorders, diabetes, arthritic conditions, etc. Examine patients, take their histories, perform physical examinations, order laboratory tests, make definitive diagnoses, and prescribe treatment to meet patients' needs, and refer them as appropriate to specialty/subspecialty care.
