Indiana UniversityHealth is hiring! We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Advanced Practice Provider with a diverse acute care background to join our dynamic General & Trauma Surgery team in Bloomington, IN. We are a level III trauma center in Bloomington, IN and referral center for the South-Central Region.
Comprehensive care to the General & Trauma Surgery patient throughout the delivery of care, is priority in this role.Care is delivered in a variety of settings, including outpatient setting, Emergency Department, Inpatient, and through discharge.Working closely with our board-certified General Surgeons, the APP will have the ability to impact care across the continuum of care for the General & Trauma Surgery patient.
Position Details:
- PRN- Supplemental Day Shift
- Approximately 80% inpatient, 20% outpatient typically however, this will be a PRN position and will likely be primarily filling inpatient rolls, with opportunity to fill clinic positions in the outpatient setting if comfortable with outpatient follow-up as schedule needs arise
- 10 h shifts when inpatient beginning at 0715 and 8 hour clinic, beginning at 0900
- 2 Shifts per month required although more may be available to cover vacation, administrative time, and FMLA
Consult Services
- Respond to all trauma 1 activations as well as General Surgery emergencies
- Perform initial assessments, including physical exams, diagnostic tests, formulate care plans for both trauma and acute care patients
- Provide consultative services for patients in the Emergency Department and inpatient units, working with ED physicians, hospitalists, and our surgery team to ensure timely and effective patient management
Inpatient Floors
- Manage and coordinate care for trauma and post-surgical patients on the floor and PCU
- Conduct daily rounds, assess patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and ensure effective communication between care teams
- Monitor post-operative recovery, recognizing signs of complications or deterioration, and initiate appropriate interventions
- Assist, manage and coordinate disposition and discharge planning as well as coordinating follow-up care
- Provide direct care to critically ill trauma and surgical patients
Procedures and Interventions
- Including but not limited to wound care, chest tube insertion/removal, central line placement, arterial lines, biopsy, bedside ultrasound, gastrostomy tube placement/removal, and more.
Qualifications:
- ACNP, FNP, or PA certification required
- Experience managing critically ill patients preferred
- Strong clinical judgement and ability to work in high-pressure situations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ideal clinical background: Minimum of 2 years in general surgery, trauma, ED or APP experience
