About the Opportunity:
Garden City Hospital, located in the heart of the Detroit metro area, is seeking a dedicated Emergency Medicine Medical Director to lead our robust Emergency Department. Position Highlights:
Role: Emergency Medicine Medical Director
Mix:
Clinical: ~80-100 hours/month (flexible mix of day, mid, and night shifts)
Administrative: Remaining time dedicated to leadership duties throughout the week (some admin tasks and meetings can be performed remotely)
Total Hours: ~144 hours/month
About the Emergency Department:
Annual Volume: ~36,000 visits
Beds: 32 main ED beds + 6 fast track beds
Trauma Designation: Level III (anything beyond stabilization is transferred to Beaumont)
Patient Load: ~2 patients per hour, moderate acuity
Coverage: Typically staffed with 2 physicians and 1 APP on shift
Shift Structure:
Day and Night shifts: 12 hours
Mid shifts: 8 hours
EMR: Epic.
Director Responsibilities:
Provide clinical leadership and administrative oversight for the ED team
Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care
Participate in departmental hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and education
Drive performance improvement initiatives and maintain regulatory compliance
Serve as liaison between the ED team and hospital administration
Participate in hospital leadership meetings and strategy discussions
Ideal Candidate:
Board Certified in Emergency Medicine (ABEM/AOBEM)
Minimum 5 years of experience as an attending emergency physician
At least 2 years of leadership experience (Medical Director, Associate Director, or similar)
Strong team-building, communication, and operational skills
