Major Duties: - Perform duties in inpatient obstetrics Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) Unit, providing comprehensive specialized nursing care to routine through high risk antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum obstetrical patients and their infants. - Perform newborn physical assessments. - Provide nursing care for pregnancy induced hypertension, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, gestational diabetes, multiple gestation, postpartum hemorrhage, uterine rupture, amniotic emboli, high/low birth weights, and infants requiring protective isolation. - Teach patients and family members about disease processes, normal newborn and postpartum care, pre and post-operative cares, pre and post diagnostic procedures; expected and possible adverse reactions to medications and health promotion. - Set up, operate and maintain a variety of medical equipment in the labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum unit to included fetal-monitors, respiratory and oxygen therapy equipment, intravenous infusion pumps, suctions, infant warmers, delivery tables. - Serve occasionally as the Charge Nurse while determining patient care assignments based on the qualifications, capabilities, and skills of available staff. - Administer oxygen, IV fluids, perform lab draws, blood products, and prescribed medications. - Provide emergency care including initiation of life sustaining measures such as delivery, CPR, hypertension therapy, choking first aid, bleeding control, treatment of injuries, etc., and assists with advanced cardiac life support measures. - Coordinate with the multi-disciplinary team (i.e., providers, pharmacists) in the management of obstetric and newborn complications/emergencies and implement interventions to enhance outcomes for post-surgical and gynecologic patients. Performs other duties as assigned.
