Germantown is a safe, family-friendly city that borders Memphis to the east. A community of upscale residential neighborhoods, Germantown has natural and designed beauty and provides exceptional leisure, cultural, and recreational opportunities. Residents enjoy excellent schools, diverse shopping and dining choices, access to premier healthcare, and ease of mobility in the Memphis region.

The Germantown area is home to several horse farms, and the city hosts many horse shows and competitions annually, most notably the Germantown Charity Horse Show in June. Other major annual events include the Germantown Festival, an arts and crafts fair, in early September. Cultural amenities include the Germantown Performing Arts Center and the Germantown Symphony Orchestra, among others.

The Wolf River runs through a portion of Germantown, and the two-mile paved greenway offers ample recreational activities. Other nearby recreation areas include Shelby Farms, the nation’s largest urban park, and Shelby Forest, which borders the Mississippi River and offers camping, kayaking, and hiking.

With a population of 41,000, Germantown has the lowest crime rate for any city of its size in the state of Tennessee. Average emergency response times for the city's fire and police are five minutes. Tennessee offers a low cost of living and does not have a state income tax, making Germantown a great place to work and live.
