The Gastroenterology Section of the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) is seeking a dynamic board certified/eligible with or without hepatology interest, transplant experience, certification to join a superb group of existing physicians and advanced practice providers.
A successful candidate would be self-motivated and dedicated with broad knowledge of gastroenterology and hepatology. The position requires a candidate to be organized and possess superb communication and leadership skills. Strong endoscopic skills including that of diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and endoscopy are required.
The key duties of the job include outpatient and inpatient GI consultation, inpatient and outpatient procedures, some administrative roles and options for research and education. Overnight and weekend call is manageable and supported by GI fellow. The candidate would be eligible for academic appointment at the University of Minnesota and expected to participate in the teaching and mentoring of gastroenterology fellows, medical residents, and medical students.
Additional duties outside the referral coordination include diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal diseases according to evidenced based methods and techniques. The candidate must be proficient at routine GI procedures such as: colonoscopy, EGD and capsule endoscopy, and its associated interventions (polypectomy, esophageal dilation, etc...). For a candidate with hepatology interest or experience tumor board participation would also be required.
Currently, the group is made up of eight physicians (5 general GI, 1 advanced endoscopist and 1 transplant hepatologist) along with 5 advanced practice providers (2 with liver focus). A nurse manager and full complement of nursing staff and technicians support an efficient and busy outpatient endoscopy suite. The GI suite includes 5 general procedures rooms and 1 advanced endoscopy room. Current services include all routine endoscopy, colonoscopy along with capsule endoscopy and esophageal pH and manometry. Advanced endoscopy services traditionally have included diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP/EUS, POEM, ESD and full thickness resection, and Barrett’s therapy (EMR, RFA, and cryoablation) along with ESG.
An applicant with research and quality improvement experience and outcomes research is desired as the applicant would find this position ripe for clinical research and quality improvement.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
