As a Physician ( Emergency Medicine) you will:Provides direct patient care and performs advanced diagnostic and life-saving treatmentprocedures. Performs patient assessment and diagnosis using patient history and physicalexamination as well as a variety of diagnostic modalities to include labs, electrocardiography anddiagnostic imaging to rule in or out potential diagnoses to formulate a plan of care. Providestreatment and management of both emergent and non-emergent conditions. Provides pediatric, adult and geriatric patients with skillful advanced life support, pain management, resuscitation,wound care and medication administration when emergent care is required. Performs life-savingprocedures such as intubation, defibrillation, cardioversion, tube thoracostomy, hemorrhage controland other procedures within the scope of an emergency physician. Provides medicationmanagement as necessary and performs procedures as indicated within the scope of an emergencyphysician such as suturing, fracture reduction or lumbar puncture when non-emergent care isrequired. Communicates with patients and their families. Sets clear goals of treatment and providesupdates regarding the course of care as necessary. Provides discharge instructions andeducation/counseling to patients being discharged from the hospital. Provides expectations topatients being admitted to inpatient care.Promotes patient access to continuing medical care and provides referrals to other health careproviders operating within the policies and regulations of the hospital. Provides consultativeopinions to other physicians and auxiliary health personnel when requested. Maintains records inaccordance with current regulations and standards. Collaborates/communicates with other membersof the medical team to include physicians, hospital administration, trainees, nurses, medical supportassistants and others in the line of duty. Provides leadership to the emergency department teamduring a shift and/or during resuscitations procedures. Assists the supervisor with shift scheduling,hospital meeting attendance, policy and procedure development/revision and/or processimprovement projects as needed.Participates in the graduate medical education of emergency medicine residents, off-serviceresidents, Physician Assistant residents, medical students and other medical trainees. Acts aspreceptor and mentor to interns, residents and medical students as outlined in the MTF's GraduateMedical Education program. Provides instructions, training, mentorship and evaluates medicalstudents, nurse practitioner students, physician's assistant students and interns rotating throughEmergency Services. Incumbent examines all patients sufficiently enough to either confirm or denythe trainee care provider's exam, reviews all charts, stamps and signs all charts of all patients seenor staffed by him/her. Participates in the ongoing medical education of assigned personnel to theEmergency Department through lectures and demonstrations, one-on-one consultations,consultations with interns and residents, and through participation in Grand Rounds. Participates in or leads quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care, reduce errorsand/or optimize departmental efficiency. Adheres to infection control guidelines, hospital andemergency department safety protocols to ensure patient safety.
