Chief of Physics – Radiation Oncology

 

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Institute (OSUCCC-James) seek a NEW Chief of Physics to oversee our main campus and Stephanie Speilman Comprehensive Breast Center in the Department of Radiation Oncology. This is a newly created position as we have experienced unprecedented growth over the last several years. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

 

Position Overview

 

Clinical leadership position on the regular clinical track in the Department of Radiation Oncology at The Ohio State University; performs the full range of academic responsibilities in the areas of clinical service including Department Leadership, Clinical Research, and Teaching; The Chief of Physics report to the Vice Chair of Medical Physics, and will be responsible for directing medical physicists and dosimetrists at the Main Campus and the Breast Center. Performs all aspects of physics support services for the Main Campus radiation oncology, breast center, and other sites as assigned in accordance with established professional and departmental standards and procedures. Provides strong leadership to the team in the three mission areas including coordination of training for residents and fellows in the residency programs of radiation oncology, medical physics and radiation therapy; graduate and undergraduate teaching programs in medical physics; research and development activities; and provides patient care services in a strong multimodality program.

 

This Chief of Physics will join our existing Chief of Physics for our West Campus operations (including Proton Therapy), and will work closely with the Vice Chair of Medical Physics to coordinate clinical and academic operations for the Division of Medical Physics across the enterprise.

 

The recruited physicist will join our growing Medical Physics team consisting of ~37 Faculty/Staff medical physicists, 4 MPA’s, 4 physics residents, and ~30 dosimetrists. To learn more, visit our website at The Ohio State University, Department of Radiation Oncology

Requirements

 

  1. Ph.D. degree at the minimum
  2. Certification in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology or equivalent
  3. Photon therapy commissioning skills Graduate degree in Medical Physics with a Doctorate degree in Medical Physics or related field required.
  4. Must possess or be eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio
  5. Must have 5+ years’ experience in Therapeutic Radiological Physics
  6. Demonstrated leadership skills
  7. Demonstrate very strong clinical acumen and training
  8. Respected experience in research, clinical practice and education
  9. Qualify for academic appointment at the associate or full professor level
  10. Active research program is desired but not required in basic, translational, clinical or health services research
