Franciscan Health Olympia Fields is seeking a dedicated and skilled General Surgeon who is passionate about providing high-quality patient care while contributing to the education and development of future surgeons. The ideal candidate has broad-based clinical expertise in general surgery, a strong commitment to evidence-based practice, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. Candidates must be board-certified in General Surgery and possess or be eligible for an Illinois medical license.
In addition to clinical excellence, we are looking for a surgeon who is enthusiastic about academic medicine and surgical education. The General Surgeon is a core faculty member who is actively involved in our ACGME-accredited Surgery residency program, engaging in clinical and didactic teaching, supervising residents and medical students, and participating in curriculum development, quality improvement, and scholarly activity. Prior experience in teaching or educational administration is required, and the successful candidate should demonstrate strong communication skills, professionalism, and genuine interest in mentoring the next generation of physicians.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive surgical care, including elective and emergency procedures
Demonstrate commitment to the delivery of safe, equitable, high-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care
Participate as a core faculty member in the ACGME-accredited Surgery residency program, devoting substantial effort to the teaching and supervision of residents
Support and contribute to processes for curriculum development, and resident and program evaluation
Engage in scholarly activity
Foster a culture of mentorship, professionalism, and continuous improvement
Qualifications:
Board-certified in General Surgery – Required
Minimum of 3–5 years post-residency clinical experience – Required
Demonstrated experience in medical education, including resident teaching and program operations – Required
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Eligible for medical licensure in Illinois
Demonstrated ongoing clinical activity
Demonstrated ongoing scholarly activity
