PPE is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and team-oriented Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner to join our Emergency Department at Bergen New Bridge. You will be focusing on patients with acute behavioral and mental health needs. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care in collaboration with emergency physicians, psychiatrists, and other behavioral health professionals in a fast-paced setting.
Perform comprehensive medical assessments for patients presenting with behavioral health crises.
Initiate and manage treatment plans, including pharmacologic interventions
Collaborate with emergency physicians, psychiatrists, social workers, and nursing staff to provide integrated care
Order and interpret diagnostic tests as needed
Participate in disposition planning, including referrals, transfers, or inpatient admissions
Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support
Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care
Qualifications
Current and unrestricted Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner license in NJ
Graduation from an accredited program
Board Certified
DEA licensure and prescriptive authority
BLS and ACLS certification (required); PALS preferred
Minimum of 1–2 years' experience in emergency medicine, or behavioral health with a passion for Pysch.
Psych training is not required.
Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and critical thinking skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Comfortable managing high-acuity behavioral health patients in an emergency setting
Full-time (typically 36–40 hours/week); includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by department coverage needs. Schedule is 7a-7p and 7p-7a.
