Job Description

Position Summary:

The Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) is a key member of a dynamic, integrated medical team at the Ithaca College Health Center, providing high-quality, evidence-based care to Ithaca College students. The APP reports to the Director of Student Health Services and works independently and collaboratively to provide a full range of primary and acute care services, including procedures and specialty care in accordance with New York State licensure and credentialing.

In Fall 2025, this position will also participate in an exciting pilot program to provide urgent care services to Ithaca College faculty and staff during designated hours.

Position Type:

Full-time

Clinic Hours: Monday–Thursday 8:00 AM-7:00 PM Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Evenings and weekends are covered in rotation with the medical provider team.

On-call Rotation:
This role does not include direct patient on-call responsibilities. However, APPs participate in a shared rotation to support the nursing triage team after hours. This may include addressing prescription refill requests, responding to clinical questions from nursing staff, and coordinating follow-up or wraparound support services for Ithaca College students as needed.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, assessments, and diagnoses.
  2. Provide evidence-based primary, acute care, and mental health care.
  3. Perform common outpatient procedures including but not limited to:
  4. - IUD insertions and removals
  5. - Laceration repair and suturing
  6. - Incision and drainage (I&D)
  7. Provide gender-affirming care in a supportive, inclusive, and affirming manner.
  8. Offer pre- and post-travel consultations and travel medicine services, including vaccination and health risk assessments.
  9. Manage mental health conditions within the scope of primary care and collaborate with behavioral health team as needed.
  10. Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests and lab results.
  11. Prescribe and manage medications in compliance with NYS law and institutional guidelines.
  12. Communicate and coordinate care with outside providers, specialists, and family members (when appropriate).
  13. Document clinical encounters accurately and timely in the electronic health record system.
  14. Participate in pre-participation physicals for student-athletes as needed.
  15. Provide health education and preventative care counseling to patients.
  16. Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, retreats, and campus committees.

Special Projects and Initiatives:

Participate in the Fall 2025 pilot program to deliver urgent care services to Ithaca College faculty and staff, focusing on:

  1. Minor injuries (sprains, lacerations, etc.)
  2. Acute illnesses (URI, flu, strep throat, etc.)
  3. Non-life-threatening symptoms needing timely evaluation

Qualifications:

  1. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with current and unencumbered New York State license.
  2. Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in a primary care, family medicine, or college health setting preferred.
  3. Experience with gender-affirming care, minor procedures, and travel medicine is highly desirable.
  4. Proficiency in using electronic medical records.
  5. Strong clinical judgment, independence, and ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
  6. Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to urgent medical situations.
  7. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  8. Commitment to culturally competent care and working with a diverse college population.

Preferred Attributes:

  1. Experience working with young adult or college-aged populations.
  2. Commitment to wellness promotion and student-centered care.
  3. Familiarity with behavioral health integration in primary care.
  4. Training or experience in LGBTQIA+ inclusive care and travel health.
