The Tomah, Wisconsin Veterans Affairs Medical Center is seeking a Pain Management Physician. Board certification preferred (American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or Interventional Pain Management). Internal Medicine/Family Medicine or Anesthesiology Board Certification with five years experience in Pain Management will be considered.
Pain physician will treat any disability resulting from disease or injury, from sore shoulders to spinal cord injuries to chronic illness, including chronic pain syndromes. The focus will be on the development of a comprehensive program for putting the pieces of a person's life back together after injury or disease without surgery.
Pain physician takes the time required to accurately pinpoint the source of an ailment and then evaluate and diagnose neurologic, musculoskeletal, and orthopedic conditions. Evaluation may include electrodiagnostic testing and treatment may include procedures such as injections and interventional pain management. Pain physician will design a treatment plan that can be carried out by the Veterans, or with the assistance of the rehabilitation physician's medical team. This medical team may include other physicians such as neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, as well as other health professionals such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, nursing, speech therapists, social workers, and psychologists. The pain physician will be familiar with the VA mission to utilize Whole Health treatment practices to improve such conditions as Chronic Pain Syndromes. By providing an appropriate treatment plan, the pain physician assists Veterans with staying as active and independent as possible. The broad medical expertise of pain management allows the pain physician to treat disabling conditions throughout a Veteran's lifetime.
