Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) is seeking an experienced and visionary Chief of Primary Care to lead our robust, quality-driven, and patient-focused primary care program. Position Overview - 70% Clinical | 30% Leadership

This role offers the unique opportunity to balance hands-on patient care with strategic leadership. You will oversee Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and Internal Medicine services while working collaboratively with system leadership to advance quality, performance, and provider engagement.

Base Salary: $340,000 – $385,000

Responsibilities

Patient Care (70%)

  • Provide direct patient care in primary care settings.
  • Serve as a clinical role model and mentor to physicians and healthcare providers within the department.
  • Uphold the highest standards of patient care, ensuring compliance with medical best practices and regulatory requirements.

Administrative and Clinical Leadership (30%)

  • Physician Recruitment & Retention: Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and retaining high-quality providers.
  • Quality Metrics: Monitor and oversee primary care quality metrics, collaborating with the quality team to implement improvements.
  • Physician Performance: Evaluate and enhance provider performance through feedback, mentorship, and development plans.
  • Program Growth & Development: Lead the expansion of primary care services, including serving as the Rural Health Clinic (RHC) Medical Director and supporting Patient-Centered Primary Care Home (PCPCH) initiatives.
  • Budget Management: Partner with leadership to prepare and manage departmental budgets.
  • Referral Outreach: Work collaboratively with internal and external departments to improve referral processes and patient care continuity.
  • Committee Involvement: Participate in quality and operations committees, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement action plans to achieve departmental and organizational goals.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine.
  • Active medical license in Oregon (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in a primary care setting.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in healthcare.
  • Expertise in healthcare quality metrics and performance improvement.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
