Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am-4:30pm (flexibility available for negotiation)
Practice Environment: Inpatient and outpatient clinic setting with a panel size consisting of one Section Chief, four Staff Physicians, and five Nurse Practitioners.
Call Coverage: Serves as the second on-call for the hematology/oncology consulting service, with the fellow typically designated as the first on-call. This role involves an estimated commitment of 12 to 14 weeks per year.
Academic Affiliations: UC, Irvine. Offering academic appointments and resident teaching opportunities.

Competitive Starting Annual Salary: Additionally, employees are eligible to receive up to $15,000 in performance-based pay annually. Furthermore, employees can qualify for Proficiency Awards, which are available in addition to Pay for Performance incentives. Regular salary reviews will occur every two years, and all employees will receive cost-of-living adjustments annually.
Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Continuing Education (CME): As a VA physician, you can earn CME credits at no cost. You can receive $1,000 or more annually and five days of paid absences to attend CME courses (conditions apply).
Paid Time Off: You will receive 208 hours or approximately 26 days of annual leave a year. Unlimited accumulation of paid sick time and 11 paid federal holidays will begin accruing upon entry.
Liability Protection (Federal Tort Claims Act): VA physicians are covered under federal tort laws and may be defended by the United States against allegations of malpractice or negligence.
Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHB): With Federal Employees Health Benefits, choose from a variety of self-or family preferred providers or health maintenance organizations.
Federal Employees Dental & Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP): Under the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program, supplemental dental and/or vision benefits are available to you and your family.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA): Allows you to save tax-advantaged money for health care expenses with a Health Care or Limited Expense Health Care FSA. Pension (FERS): Your basic annuity is computed based on your length of service and “high-3” average salary and becomes vested in the Federal Employee Retirement System, Basic/Defined Benefit pension after only 5 years of creditable civilian service.
