The Pittsburgh VA Healthcare System is seeking a highly qualified psychiatrist to serve as the Section Chief of our Center for the Treatment of Additive Disorders (CTAD). Major Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Ongoing professional practice evaluations for CTAD direct supports. This involves chart review on a yearly basis for direct reports and making sure they are maintaining a reasonable standard of practice.
  • Grid Mapping/Productivity reviews – Section Chief is responsible for reviewing productivity of direct reports on a quarterly basis, discuss findings with the respective report, and adjust schedule to the service line needs.
  • Clinic request and leave approvals – Manage and review leave requests of direct reports to ensure appropriate clinical coverage that is needed by the clinic.
  • Call off reviews and guidance to MSA Staff – Manage and review patients with direct report call offs to ensure coverage and/or proper rescheduling for veterans affected on the daily basis.
  • Recruitment – Reviewing new applicants to ensure appropriate clinical needs and staffing.
  • New employee orientation – Coordinating onboarding with HR for new hires, approving appropriate access/equipment needed for the position and oriented the staff to the clinic.
  • Monitoring of consults and distribute appropriately – Specifically the CTAD ASAP consults that need to be reviewed on daily basis.
  • Provide clinical backup and overflow coverage as needed.
  • Section Chief and direct report meetings – Attending service line meetings and reporting out to the service line about clinic operations.
  • Psychiatry / Addiction Medicine resident orientation, supervision, and onboarding.
  • Liaison with other service lines – Attending meetings with other service lines to collaborate on mutual patients, provide input on new policies, and input on addiction related treatment.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm
Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
