Job Description


The Washington D.C. VA Medical Center is seeking full-time Primary Care Physicians to work on a multidisciplinary team engaging in face-to-face care. The ideal candidate is an independent care provider who is highly skilled and has experience in General Internal Medicine or Family Practice. A multidisciplinary team setting consisting of physicians, RN and Health technicians and close collaboration with mental health clinicians. We have affiliations with The George Washington University Medical Center, Georgetown University Medical School, Howard University and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Veteran services are provided in an outpatient setting.   

DUTIES:
  • Provides direct hands-on patient care. Assesses patients for acute illnesses and determine whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting. Manages chronic diseases.
  • Additionally, provides clinical guidance over video, by telephone, by Secure Messaging and through the mail. Ensures accurate documentation of medical assessments and observations.
  • May be responsible for supervising and teaching medical residents and students once board-certified. (If hired while only board-eligible, the teaching and supervision of learners may begin only after board certification has been achieved.)
  • May also be required to oversee mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants.
  • Establishes interpersonal and intra-departmental relationships to enhance optimal patient care.
  • Demonstrates competent and effective oral and written communication.
  • Provides appropriate patient/family member teaching and education; evaluates effectiveness and level of patient/family member understanding of teaching provider.
  • Utilizes the CPRS computer software/program for entering and signing of medical orders such as laboratory studies, radiological studies, etc.
  • Maintains familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and procedures, ensuring the use of antiseptic methods of all in-clinic procedures.
  • Ensures a safe work environment and employees safe work habits.

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Up to $200,000 over a 5-year period for a qualified, approved position. 

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM.
